Which statement best describes you?
- Let’s do it my way.
- Let's do it the fun way.
- Let’s do it the easy way.
- Let’s do it the right way.
Every statement probably appeals to some degree, but we tend to live by 1 or 2 more than the others. I like to do things the fun way. So if you want to do anything with me, it is in your best interest to try to make it fun. I also gravitate toward doing things the easy way. I love to do things my way, but if it's fun or easy, I am usually fine to do it your way. The right way doesn’t matter as much to me. I’m a closet perfectionist, so I have high standards for myself, but accuracy and correctness don’t fire me up. They exhaust me, especially when someone else requires them of me. Fun fires me up. Ease makes me happy. I like to do it my way, and my way is usually the fun and easy way. See how this works?
This is on my mind, because I have decided that I want to get in shape. I want my body to be as healthy as it can be. I want to like the way I look, and I want to be in shape for any adventure or activity that appeals to me – swimming with bait balls in South Africa, keeping up with Whale Sharks, dancing until the DJ stops, or hiking Tiger Leaping Gorge. So I need a plan, and that plan really needs to fit me. Most exercise is not fun for me. I want to have fun, and I need to do it my way in my time. Otherwise, I will feel resentment or quit early. I have to remind myself that I am not lazy. I love a challenge and working hard, but only when it is fun for me. So what can I do?
- Salsa Dancing –fun, nearby (easy), classes are challenging
- Flash Mobs – ditto, with more people, more laughing
- Scuba Diving – fun, easy in tropics, challenging here
- Walking – good weather, talking, natural beauty, food/drink
- Swimming – there is a pool a block from me, i think I’ll like this
- Running - short distances, slow with talking, run/walk
- Gymnastics – adult classes, will I break a bone if I try?
- Yoga – i'm contemplative, love to stretch, at the seattle school
So there is plenty of exercise I like if I think creatively. I just need to do it. Writing it down, sharing it with friends, and saying it out loud are all things that help me succeed. I would like to do all of these with people I know and love. If you want to do any of them, call/text/email me. I am not good at calling or planning. If you are, that would be lovely.
